Yorgos Lanthimos’ The Favourite leads the 2019 BAFTAs with 12 Nominations

Yorgos Lanthimos’ new smash-hit The Favourite leads the way at this year’s Baftas with twelve nominations, including Best Director, Best Film, Outstanding British Film, Leading Actress (Olivia Colman), two nods for Supporting Actress with Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone (both nominated), and Best Cinematography and Editing. This comes off the back of a Golden Globe award for Olivia Colman, suggesting The Favourite is in line to win some of the most prestigious awards in film this year.

Fresh from shooting with Droga5 for Mini Electric on location in Mexico, Yorgos has shown his directorial skill and dead-pan comedy in his newest feature amongst a growing collection of brilliant work. Following DogtoothThe Lobster and more recently The Killing of a Sacred DeerThe Favourite stands in a new class and marks Yorgos’ rapid ascendancy into becoming one of the most sought after and exciting directors in cinema.
