ITV have announced the upcoming drama Beecham House, co-created by Gurinder Chadha (Bend it like Beckham) and Shahrukh Husain and produced by Chadha’s company Bend It TV.
Set in Delhi before British rule, the drama depicts the fortunes of the residents who occupy Beecham House, a magnificent mansion surrounded by exotic woods and pristine lawns.
Tom Bateman (Vanity Fair, Jekyll and Hyde) will play the lead role of John Beecham alongside Downton Abbey’s Lesley Nicol and Gregory Fitsoussi (Mr Selfridge, Spiral).
Peter Lydon who has directed episodes of Shameless, Poirot and Garrow’s Law and who is responsible for memorable ads such as Sky’s ‘Princess and the Pea’ and Carlsberg’s campaign ‘The Danish Way’ featuring Mads Mikkelsen, will direct episodes four to six.
This will be a return to TV for Lydon who has enjoyed a fruitful time on Merman’s commercial directing roster since its inception.
The six-part series started filming in India and Ealing studios last month.
