Merman Signs Yorgos Lanthimos for UK Commercial Representation
Merman are thrilled to announce the signing of Yorgos Lanthimos to our commercial directing roster in the UK.
Yorgos Lanthimos is a Greek multi-award winning director, producer and screenwriter whose first English language feature film ‘The Lobster’ (starring Golden Globe nominee Colin Farrell) won the 2015 Cannes Film Jury Prize. This brought further attention to his wildly original filmography which includes Oscar-nominated ‘Dogtooth’ (2009) and ‘Alps’ (2011).
Lanthimos began his career in Greece directing dance videos in collaboration with Greek choreographers. He then went on to direct TV commercials, short films and theatre plays. In 2017, Lanthimos was lorded as the auteur for the hit thriller ‘The Killing of a Sacred Deer’ (staring Nicole Kidman and Colin Farrell) which also went on to win Best Screenplay at Cannes Film Festival.
Firmly considered part of the pantheon of world-class directors, Lanthimos latest feature film ‘The Favourite’ (starring Olivia Coleman, Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz) won the Grand Jury prize at this year’s Venice Film Festival, ‘The Favourite’ depicts 18thCentury court like under Queen Anne’s reign where-by two cousins jockey it out in a wickedly funny game of one-up-womanship. ‘The Favourite’ premieres at the London Film Festival 2018 from Thursday 18thOctober and goes on general release in the UK from 1stJanuary 2019 and is already being praised as an unmissable achievement of modern cinema.
