Sharon Horgan and Clelia Mountford first met on Season 1 of The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret as actor and producer respectively. By the end of Season 2 of Todd they were already cooking up ways of working together more permanently and thus Merman was born in 2014.
Both founding partners of Merman have enjoyed very full and diverse careers before joining forces. Sharon and Clelia are lucky to have worked with some of the best talent in the industry, from both sides of the pond. A family of talent that they are now developing and creating a diverse range of projects with. They have enormous ambition and vision for Merman, that expands beyond British television. With numerous projects in development for the big screen, they are also already co-producing their first TV show in the USA.
SHARON HORGAN’s past credits include her directorial debut for THE WEEK BEFORE CHRISTMAS (Sky One), for which she won The Outstanding Achievement Award at the International 3D Awards. Also the much loved and highly applauded PULLING (BBC), which was nominated for the BAFTA Best Sitcom with Series 2 winning Sharon the British Comedy Award for Best Television Comedy Actress.
Sharon has created, written and starred in a variety of comedy shows including ANGELO’s (Channel 5), FREE AGENTS (Channel 4) and DEAD BOSS (BBC), and many US pilots including BAD MANAGEMENT, BAD MOM and executive produced a remake of PULLING.
Her other acting credits include THE INCREASINGLY POOR DECISIONS OF TODD MARGARET (IFC), PSYCHOBITCHES (SKY ARTS), THE BORROWERS (BBC1), MOVING ON (BBC1) and BAD SUGAR (Channel 4). Film work includes RUN AND JUMP, DEATH OF A SUPERHERO and MAN UP.
Sharon is also currently writing and executive producing the third series of the recent hit sitcom CATASTROPHE (Channel 4/Amazon), with Rob Delaney, in which they will both star and is co-produced by Merman. She has created and is show running DIVORCE (HBO) co-produced by Merman, starring Sarah Jessica Parker and Thomas Hayden Church.
CLELIA MOUNTFORD’s recent credits include producing THE CIRCUIT (Merman) by Sharon Horgan and Dennis Kelly, starring Adeel Akhtar and Eva Birthistle. She also executive produced the pilot of MOTHERLAND (Merman/Delightful Industries) starring Anna Maxwell Martin, Lucy Punch and Diane Morgan.
Previously she produced the third series of TODD MARGARET (IFC/Merman), COCKROACHES (ITV2) starring Jack Whitehall, Daniel Lawrence Taylor and Esther Smith and two series of the award-winning A YOUNG DOCTOR'S NOTEBOOK (Sky Arts) starring Jon Hamm and Daniel Radcliffe, which she devised. She also produced MR SLOANE (Sky Atlantic) with Nick Frost and Olivia Colman, two ‘Little Crackers’ for Sky One: NUTCRACKER written by and starring Caroline Quentin and Sharon Horgan's THE WEEK BEFORE CHRISTMAS which won the Outstanding Achievement Award at the International 3D Awards. She is currently producing BLISS (Merman/Big Talk) written and directed by David Cross, starring Stephen Mangan and Heather Graham for Sky Atlantic.
Clelia was Head of Comedy at RDF Television where she executive produced LEE AND ROBBIE for the BBC, and two series of THE INCREASINGLY POOR DECISIONS OF TODD MARGARET for IFC and Channel 4. The series starred David Cross, Will Arnett, Spike Jonze, Sharon Horgan, Blake Harrison and Jon Hamm. She was Head of Radio and Script Associate at TalkbackThames, having started her career as a theatre and radio producer.
